Baby Shower

We went to a Baby Shower today. Can you tell what the baby's going to be?

Big-sister-to-be, Caitlyn, invited everyone and organised the whole event- including food, decorations, and games. As you can see, the food was excellent. And the games were...different!
Prepare for grossness!
One of them involved different melted chocolate bars squished into nappies! We had to open the nappies, smell the chocolate and guess what type of bar had been used. The girls relished the task but it was a bit off-putting.
Mum-to-be, Chris was calm and considering when her turn came. Perhaps she was anticipating future events!
Now for something quilty: Christine is a keen quilter and look at the sweet little quilts she's made in preparation for the new arrival. The look so lovely with this gorgeous rocking bassinet she picked up for a song from eBay!

It really was a lot of fun! Thanks Caitlyn and Chris.

Thank You

Thank you for your support and caring comments after the theft of my quilt, they really helped to soften the blow. I can't really express how much better it made me feel and helped me to move on, knowing so many people cared. I was surprised how many people must drop in and read my blog! It's been a week now and I haven't heard any news about the quilt's recovery unfortunately although I've reported it to the police and published it in the local rag.
The quilt above is a cot quilt commission I've just completed for someone to send to her little grandson in England.
There's lots of free cut curved piecing in it and raw edge Australiana applique - not my favourite techniques and quite fiddly to do. It turned out quite nicely - the photo doesn't really do it justice though...
Time for a new camera!
I've just seen this blog with a mystery quilt for Bedford, a charity that allows disabled people to work. I think I might give it a go!
Happy quilting,
Ann.

Serendipity and A Baby Quilt!

I've just finished a little baby quilt for my sister's new baby girl! My sister lives in PNG with her husband and recently they adopted a little baby girl - two weeks ago! She is my first niece and I'll be meeting her when I go up to Port Moresby next month. It's very exciting.
But I had to make a quilt and I used the sweet Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit range of fabrics as the starting point, combining the squares with a few of the lovely Moda fabrics from my stock. Of course, I used my hypoallergenic Bamboo wadding , ideal for children's quilts, too. I trimmed some of the blocks with some lovely vintage rick rack I found at a garage sale. Serendipity! It all worked out...
At the same time I was also making a quilt with Pacific Island prints and the fabric scraps from that serendipitously found their way onto the folded baby quilt. I thought the combination works really well so I've made a little bundle to sew together later... we'll see... sometimes those coincidental combinations are the most inspiring and work out best!
